Textured Art: Creating with Organic Materials
You know that feeling when you spot something beautiful in nature and just have to pick it up? That´s me! I create textured art because I love how simple, natural materials can tell such interesting stories when you give them a chance. Back in my studio, these finds become something special - I also turn them into natural pigments. It's pretty amazing to see how each handful of soil or crushed rock reveals its own unique color. I still need help of acrylics in some of my paintings though, as these homemade pigments are a loooot of work!!
Being sustainable in my art practice just makes sense to me. I love finding new uses for things that would usually end up in the bin. Coffee filters, egg cartons, fallen leaves - these "everyday" items have so much potential. And when you add things like beach sand and coffee grounds to the mix, each piece gets its own unique texture and character.
The cool thing about working with these materials is how they naturally create layers and textures. I love that my artwork isn't just meant to be looked at - it's meant to be experienced. There's something really special about art that makes you want to reach out and touch it. These natural, earthy tones aren't just colors to me - they're a reminder of all the amazing materials we can find right outside our door.
My studio is pretty much a collection of nature's treasures, waiting to be turned into something new. I guess what I'm trying to do is show that you don't need fancy art supplies to create something meaningful. Sometimes the most beautiful materials are the ones we walk past every day without noticing.
